9 Requirements to Include in an Influencer or KOL Campaign Brief in Singapore

Influencer and Key Opinion Leader (KOL) campaigns in Singapore often go wrong at one of two extremes: either the brand sends a casual two-line WhatsApp message (“Come down to try our new menu and post a Reel!”) and receives an off-message video with poor lighting, or the brand hands the creator a rigid corporate brochure script that sounds robotic and kills audience engagement.

Drawing on our ecosystem experience across KOLnection, EatingKingKong.com, and our Influencer Subscription Plans—and complementing our earlier look at Singapore influencers—include these nine requirements in every creator campaign brief.

1. A single campaign objective and primary viewer action

Why it matters: Asking a 45-second TikTok or Instagram Reel to simultaneously introduce your company history, explain five different services, promote a flash voucher, and recruit job applicants leaves viewers doing nothing.

What to specify: Define one primary goal per campaign (for example: drive footfall to a new outlet launch, demonstrate a specific product bottleneck, or generate paid-ad creative assets) and one clear viewer next step.

2. Exact deliverable formats, aspect ratios, durations and tags

Why it matters: “One social media post” can mean a disappearing 24-hour Story, a static photo, or a 60-second original vertical video cross-posted to Instagram Reels and TikTok.

What to specify: State the exact platform, format (e.g., 1x 9:16 Instagram Reel of 30–45 seconds + 3x sequential Story frames with link sticker), required collaborator/brand tags, and minimum duration the post must remain live on their main grid.

3. Must-have factual talking points versus creative freedom boundaries

Why it matters: Creators know their audience’s humour and pacing best, while you know your product’s factual differentiators. Give them bullet points to translate into their own voice rather than a word-for-word corporate teleprompter script.

What to specify: List 3 mandatory factual points (such as key ingredients, price point, MRT proximity, or warranty terms) and 3 strict “Do Not Say” boundaries (such as unverified medical claims or competitor disparagement).

4. First-3-second visual and verbal hook requirements

Why it matters: If a creator spends the first eight seconds of a video greeting their followers before showing your product or store experience, 70% of viewers will have already scrolled past.

What to specify: Provide 2 to 3 approved opening hook angles—showing the hero dish, transformation, or problem statement within the first 3 seconds, aligned with our paid social creative formats guide.

5. On-site visit logistics, product seeding and shoot etiquette

Why it matters: Uncoordinated store visits during peak Saturday dinner rush frustrate both your outlet staff and the creator, resulting in rushed footage and crowded backgrounds.

What to specify: Confirm approved visit dates/times, the named outlet manager on duty, exact products/dishes prepared for filming, and any areas or customers that should not be filmed for privacy.

6. Draft review workflow, factual check SLA and revision scope

Why it matters: Reviewing a video draft before it goes live allows you to catch mispronounced brand names, wrong prices, or missing captions—without demanding a total reshoot for subjective stylistic preferences after the creator followed your brief.

What to specify: Require draft video and caption submission at least 3 to 5 business days before the target live date, including 1 round of factual/editing corrections.

7. Paid ad boosting, Spark Ads / Partnership Ads and raw file usage rights

Why it matters: Organic reach on a creator’s profile is only half the value; turning a top-performing creator video into a paid Meta Partnership Ad or TikTok Spark Ad often delivers strong lead generation ROI. However, organic posting fees do not automatically include commercial ad whitelisting or raw footage ownership unless stated in writing.

What to specify: Specify upfront whether the fee includes 30, 90, or 365 days of paid ad boosting/whitelisting rights and whether the creator will supply the clean, un-watermarked high-resolution MP4 file for your brand’s own social channels.

8. Advertising disclosure compliance (ASAS guidelines) and category exclusivity

Why it matters: Under the Advertising Standards Authority of Singapore (ASAS) Guidelines on Interactive Marketing Communication & Social Media, sponsored content and commercial relationships must be clearly and prominently disclosed to consumers. Equally, you do not want a creator promoting your direct competitor the very next day.

What to specify: Require transparent platform disclosure tags (e.g., Paid Partnership label or clear #sp / #ad disclosure) and a reasonable category exclusivity window (such as 7 to 30 days before and after posting).

9. Tracking links, promo codes and post-campaign analytics screenshot delivery

Why it matters: Public view counts do not show Story link taps, saves, shares, or audience demographics—which are only visible inside the creator’s private insights tab.

What to specify: Provide a UTM-tracked link or creator code where applicable, and require the creator to submit native analytics screenshots (views, watch time, shares, saves, link clicks) 7 to 14 days after publication.

Influencer / KOL Campaign Brief & Usage-Rights Checklist

Include this summary table at the top of every creator agreement or campaign brief:

Brief Component What Must Be Specified in Writing Why It Protects Campaign ROI
Deliverables & Specs Platform, aspect ratio (9:16), duration, burnt-in captions & grid retention window Prevents ambiguity between fleeting Stories and permanent Reels/TikToks
Hook & Messaging First-3-second visual hook + 3 factual must-haves + prohibited claims Combines authentic creator delivery with accurate brand positioning
Review & Timeline Shoot window, draft submission date & 1 factual revision round Catches pricing or caption errors before public posting
Usage & Paid Rights Organic-only vs Paid Spark/Partnership Ad whitelisting duration (e.g. 90 days) Lets you scale winning creator videos inside your paid ad account legally
Disclosure & Reporting ASAS-compliant disclosure tag + 14-day native insights screenshot handover Ensures regulatory compliance and verifiable post-campaign metrics
